Discipline Hearing Program Reduces Expulsion and Dropout Rates

ECSD implemented a Discipline Hearing Program during the ’16-’17 academic year. “Our hands were tied by the Student Code of Conduct,” explained Josh Black, STHS principal. “A student could make a huge mistake and have never been in trouble, have great attendance and good grades, but if an expulsion level offense was committed, expulsion was the only option,” continued Black.  STCTC Starts Single Gender Welding Class for ’17-‘18

Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center (STCTC) has an all-female welding class this year. “I’m excited about have a class of young ladies,” said Bill Cheatham, STCTC Welding teacher. STCTC has to meet Perkins Indicators which are goals set by the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE). STCTC actively encourages students to enter programs that traditionally are dominated by the opposite gender. “We had met our goals for non-traditional participation the past two years so the SCDE raised the bar,” explained Arthur Northrop, STCTC director. ECSD’s Adult Education Program Expansion at Fox Creek a Success

Edgefield County School District established an Adult Education program on the Fox Creek High School campus during the ’16-’17 academic year. “We provided multiple avenues for students to complete their high school equivalency diplomas and reduced the barrier of transportation to county residents living on the northern part of the county,” explained Vickie Butler, Adult Education Director. Nine of the nineteen students on the Fox Creek campus received high school equivalency diplomas. More Information
