AdvancED Accreditation is a measure of system quality based on the Index of Educational Quality established a thorough process conducted by an external review team.  The review includes examination of district processes, interviews with all stakeholder groups, surveys of students, parents, and teachers along with school and classroom observations.   Through this process both the district and all schools are accredited through 2022.

The South Carolina State Department of Education accreditation process is conducted as a desk audit through district data systems to ensure the district is in compliance with state regulations. JET Middle School as well all other schools in the district, with the exception of Strom Thurmond High School, received an ALL CLEAR status. An action plan for Strom Thurmond High School was approved by the State Board of Education to address deficiencies such as updating the proper course codes for specific courses. “The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) has reviewed Edgefield County School District’s strategies for removing Strom Thurmond High School’s accreditation deficiencies and is pleased to approve the district’s action plan,” Ryan Brown, SCDE.

Principals Josh Black (Strom Thurmond High School) and Debbie Courtney (J-E-T Middle School) ensured their schools addressed the issues identified by the SCDE. “The Department looks forward to continuing to work alongside the district to ensure it returns to an All Clear status and applauds Dr. Maddox and the Edgefield School District staff for the work they have done thus far and continue to do to ensure student success,” continued Brown.
