Teacher Certification Continued

Teacher Certification continued

Classes will be held in the evenings in Edgefield County and there is a loan forgiveness program for participants. Professors from SC State will travel to Edgefield to teach the classes.  Classes are open to anyone within or outside of our district and county.

Reinell A. Thomas-Myers, Program Manager of Minority Teacher Recruitment at S.C. State University joined the informational meeting held on December 3 at J-E-T Middle School. “We have talented people working in our schools who will make great teachers” noted Debbie Courtney, J-E-T Middle School Principal. Participants at the meeting learned that the program will offer students classes in the evenings in Edgefield taught by South Carolina State University professors. On-line and hybrid courses will also be offered in the program.

“This program is an incredible opportunity to increase not only our pool of teachers as a whole, but also increase the diversity of our teaching staff.  It makes education accessible to non-traditional students, such as our teacher assistants and career path changers, and is a great way to grow our own teachers that will hopefully choose employment within our district for many years,” explained Dr. Kevin O’Gorman, ECSD Superintendent.
