Important Announcement Regarding School Meals for School Year 2022-2023

For the past two years, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has offered waivers to Child Nutrition (CN) Programs across the United States, allowing these programs to offer all students breakfast and lunch, at no charge. These waivers will expire on June 30, 2022. This means that starting next school year, 2022-2023, the CN programs across the nation will return to normal, pre-pandemic operations. Families will once again be asked to complete and submit a current school year Free/Reduced Meal Application if they feel their student would qualify for free or reduced meals. In the past years, the first 30 days of the school year carryover meal status from the previous school year applied. Some families may have chosen to not submit the meal applications these past couple of years, so that 30-day carryover will not be applicable. However, there is one thing that parents/guardians can do to ensure their students are ready to start the 2022-23 school year.

The new 2022-23 meal application will be available July 1, 2022. Parents/guardians may complete an online meal application at:

Make sure you provide all the information regarding incomes of any type. Include the case number for any SNAP benefits if that applies. Doing this will cover the student for the entire 2022-23 school year and no other steps will be necessary unless there is an income change during the school year. As long as the application is complete you will receive a letter from the Edgefield County School District’s Department of Child Nutrition office which will indicate if the application is approved or not. Until you receive approval, it is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to provide payment for any food items. Completing the meal application before the beginning of the 2022-23 school year will help ensure that your student will not incur any meal charges.

The Child Nutrition Department is committed to assisting families and making this transition back to normal operations as easy as possible. Please feel free to contact our offices at 803-275-5788.
